Study Trips

Manchester, Salford, London, Amsterdam & Rotterdam

SUDS organised a number of field trips during 2012/13. Numerous visits to London included a tour around the Olympic Park and its surrounding environs. We also visited Manchester to see New Islington, Media City Salford and the redevelopment of former industrial warehouses.

A long weekend in Amsterdam and Rotterdam was a valuable study tour of new developments and typologies as well as a chance to soak up local culture. (further details can be found in Field trips)

Urbanist Film Nights

Including documentaries, films and TV series

After a hard day in the design studio we would turn the room into a film theatre. Running a series of film nights, complete with popcorn and snacks on the broad theme of Urbanism. The program was suggested by SUDS members and ranged from factual documentaries on housing projects to theatrical films that evoke a strong sense of place.

Practice Lunch Visits

What better way to find out what life is like in some of the leading Urban Design practices working today than having lunch with designers in their offices, while they present some of their current projects. SUDS has utilised the wide Oxford Brookes UD Network to organised visits to ARUP, Allies and Morrison, JTP and Urban Initiatives.

Knowledge Exchange

SUDS believe that some of the best resources you will come across are the people around you. So we aim to share our diverse range of experiences and knowledge with each other through informal peer lectures. This can be a fascinating way of gaining insight into the opinions and professional experiences of your colleagues, from Healthy Places to Buddhist approaches to flood defences.
